The Phantom Of The Opera by Gaston Leroux

As this is the first review.. I cannot start it off with anything less elegant. This lovely french piece of literature is, at times, overshadowed by the media influenced film, and stage production. While I do love both, nothing quite tells the story like the Gaston Leroux's vivid descriptions. Raoul pacing around the room of mirrors, drawing up a carnival horror setting, where all he wants is to find his loved one. All he wants is Christine to return to him. She is stuck in the darkness and not the light. While, similar to other french novels such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame in it's wordiness, it becomes a necessity to describe the settings and place you there. Leroux's novel , is one that will never leave our hearts. Whether we feared the Opera Ghost , or loved him with all of our pity, his hate for almost everyone providing empathy, it is a novel that everyone should read , at the very least , once.
